Have a day!

You know those conversations where you and a friend try to find common ground by admitting how you both have bad days? Your friend is all, "Yeah, I didn't shower until noon two days ago. I was so lazy! I spent all morning cleaning out and organizing my hall closet after I laundered and pressed my curtains." And then you reply, "Jeez, don't I know it! Today, I didn't get cleaned up until two o'clock because I was doing housework..." Look down and away and feel bad about yourself because you just LIED!

You actually didn't shower until 5:46 pm because your husband was going to be home soon and you didn't want him to see you on the fourth day since your last shower. Add two naked, slippery little kids to that shower and the fact that what you meant by the vague description "housework" was that you didn't do much more than read a few Golden Books and unload the dishwasher. And that's a GOOD day!

You compared your good day to your friend's bad day and now you're feeling like poo poo because you actually leave Cheerios on the floor knowing your baby will eat them. Speaking of, that baby is trying to bite a hole in my shirt at this very moment because he wants me to nurse him. Classy.

I guess what I'm getting at is don't lie to your friends. Also, did you consider that your friend's story may have been a depiction of her best day because she's actually trying to make you think she's not as lame as she feels, too? Third, I don't want to have "bad" or "good" days anymore. I don't want to categorize every day as either a failure or success. Chances are, most days will fall in the fail or "bad" category because we wake up in the morning with a list of absolute to-do's. When we don't measure up to everything on the list, we stamp it with a big ol' fatty "fail" and put that day on the "bad" list. This makes us, in turn, think we are bad or failures at momming.

So, here's to days. Just days. Not good or bad. Let what happens happen and at the end of the day say to yourself, "Wow, that was a day."

  7. Today is one of those "bad" days, maybe I just need to change my attitude. I've been bummed all day but just realized maybe its because I have to go to the doctor for my follow-up after my miscarriage. Nope- today is a bad day. Here's to having a day tomorrow
